Welcome to the ICC - Ham Radio Page
During any natural or man made disaster communication is an essential part of responding and coordinating relief efforts. Amateur Radio (HAM) plays a significant role with these communications either as a primary mechanism for communication such as situations where cellular and land line phones become unavailable or serve as a backup when those resources are simply to busy to sustain the amount of call traffic.
Many of our CERT team members are ham licensed and can assist multiple organizations with the handling of radio traffic during an emergency from their home, at deployment sites or mobile in their vehicle. CERTs will also work and partake in drills along side of the first responders (police, fire, and medical). These roles not only assist and increase the abilities that first responders can provide in time of need, they also give CERTs practical knowledge and practice so when the emergencies come they are prepared.
