CTCSS
- "Continuous Tone Coded Squelch System", also referred to as PL tones or just tones, is a low frequency subaudible tone (i.e. almost unnoticeable) that is superimposed on a transmission to activate a repeater. A transmission without the proper CTCSS tone will be ignored by the intended repeater.
