CTCSS: "Continuous Tone Coded Squelch System", also referred to as PL tones or just tones, is a low frequency subaudible tone (i.e. almost unnoticeable) that is superimposed on a transmission to activate a repeater. A transmission without the proper CTCSS tone will be ignored by the intended repeater.
Frequency: Frequency -- The number of complete cycles of an alternating current that occur per second.

input frequency: Input frequency -- A repeater's receiving frequency. To use a repeater, transmit on the input frequency and receive on the output frequency.
Line-of-sight propagation: Line-of-sight propagation -- The term used to describe VHF and UHF propagation in a straight line directly from one station to another.
Repeater: A radio system that allow a small radio signal to be rebroadcasted to a larger area.
